To ensure our users have a seamless experience in using the Avail network, we have analyzed the performance and determined the original pricing for extrinsic was too low which led to people abusing the network. To address this and ensure optimal reliability and performance, we are increasing the cost of transactions for the Testnet by 50x.
Although the change may seem large, it should not have an impact on our regular users. The prices are still low.
Example:
- A Balance transfer costs 0.015 AVL
- The
dataSubmitcall costs 0.006 AVL (this depends on the length). - The weight of the
remarkcall was adjusted to be equal to 0.04% of the block, which means the call now costs 0.093 AVL.
The reason behind this change was to ensure that our extrinsics are properly priced and weighted.
After careful consideration and analysis of the network performance, we observed that the original pricing for extrinsic was too low which led to people abusing the network, where we saw multiple accounts doing 30k remark calls per block and for almost negligible costs. We will keep an eye on usage and traffic over the coming days and fine-tune the pricing to ensure users have a seamless experience in using the Avail network.
